Vernon Swart was born in Stellenbosch in 1959. He studied Fine Arts at the University of Stellenbosch. In 1988 he did his MA in Fine Arts.

Thereafter he taught painting, drawing and the history of Art.

He mainly draws nude studies and uses conté as a medium. His work can bee seen in private as well as corporate collections throughout South Africa.

The corporate collections include the Cape Provincial Administration, the Museum of Military History, and the Sasol Museum.
