  • General Style:                       Sculpture: Mainly figurative

sculptures in cement, concrete, clay

or any suitable mixed media. Style is

simple, with strong lines and little or

no “movement”. The larger  (life size or larger) works in cement have very little detail, whereas smaller clay

and mixed media sculptures may display selective detail. Figures are often elongated with exaggerated poses

and display subtle symbolism.

Painting: Early paintings were mainly dramatic figure studies. Style and subject matter changed in 1998 with

the influence of the open skies and rolling landscapes of the Canadian Prairies. Large, simple landscapes, often with

dramatic skies, dominated the Canadian years.  The same basic approach continued after 2005 upon returning to South Africa.

Landscapes continue to focus on simplicity and patterns, with the sky often the focal point. Wildlife themes also focus on

the balance, composition and abstract feeling of patterns in nature rather than typical “African scenes”.
