
Jenny Merritt was born in
Stellenbosch and obtained a Fine Art Degree in 1962 at
the
Maurice Van Esche; life
drawing under Melvyn Simmers; graphic art under
Eleanor Esmond-White and
sculpture under Ivan Mitford Barbeton.
After her studies, Jenny
was guided and encouraged by her mentor, Robert
Broadley, the well-known
portrait artist who was instrumental in furthering her
early career.
She currently lectures
privately from an artists school in Table View
and
her works are exhibited in most of the well known galleries in
Jenny's work consists of
abstracts, portraits, landscapes, seascapes, caricatures,
horse and animal studies
(formal and impressionistic). She works in most
mediums. eg. Oil, acrylic,
pastel, watercolours and mixed media.
Jenny has received numerous
awards from the Western Cape Watercolour
Society and the South
African Society of Artists :-
