Derric van Rensburg internationally known for his superb impressionist paintings, is rated as one of South Africa’s top practicing artists.

It all started at the age of ten when he did his first pencil drawing, and his career later followed the commercial and manufacturing world of the creative arts,

as well as teaching art before he became a professional artist in 1986.

This year, Derric van Rensburg celebrated his fifty-fifth birthday with a highly successful solo exhibition of his latest works at the Lindy van Niekerk Art Gallery

in Welgemoed, Cape Town. An integral part of this exhibition, was also the launch of a 200 page, full colour coffee table book, about Derric van Rensburg the artist and his art,

from a young age, to the present. Derric van Rensburg is a talented, versatile artist who has in many ways contributed to the development of emerging artists. He has done so, not only through teaching art as a profession, but also through numerous workshops and private tutorials.

His first exhibition was held in Cape Town in 1978 and was sold out within a few days. Since then he has exhibited annually in South Africa,

and also successfully exhibited in Portugal, England, Italy, Australia and Germany.

My work takes the form of colour, texture and composition, rather than detail. I am essentially an Impressionist and I attribute my brand of expression to a colourful

country that has inspired and sustained me in my professional career.

“I do not paint because it is my work. I paint because, as Martin Luther said, I “can do no other”.
