Audrey Rudnick
Palmpodpeople

Well known artist and sculpturess, Audrey Rudnick, was born in Durban and

educated in Zambia, Durban and later attended the Johannesburg School of Art, Ballet, Drama and Music. Audrey always knew she wanted to be an

artist and her undeniable talent was noticed from an early age.

After school, Audrey travelled through Europe for six years, painting and

sketching. She also spent some time in Sri Lanka designing and making batiks, but it was while she was spending time in Paris that she was inspired

to sculpt and then to combine the mediums of painting and sculpture.

Audrey's unique design of the "pod people" reached a selective audience and has since created a strong following. Her portfolio consists out of a violinist,

flutist and several ethnic woman - the Mesai, Zulu, Xhosa and Ndebele. This unique piece of art is created from resin and wood and flows into a palmpod to round off this very elegant looking sculpture."I mainly paint and sculpture women because I think they are beautiful and

frankly, I find pleasing to work with. Women have lovely curves and seem to

comdine both softness and strength, qualities I love to portray in my work", Audrey says. Audrey derives a lot of inspiration from the Bible,

particularly the books of Proverbs and Psalms.

Audrey Rudnick’s name is synonymous with the Pod People, sculpture pieces made out of palm fronds for which she holds all production

, marketing and selling rights under her Patent. She is also a world renowned Surrealist - Painter and Sculptor (her first solo exhibition was in Switzerland in

1977 at the age of 19). Painting is her greatest passion. Audrey draws most of her inspiration from the Bible. In addition to the patent for the Pod

People she also holds a second patent for the Skirt People.

** [The palm branch was a symbol of triumph and victory in pre-Christian times. The Romans rewarded champions of the games and celebrated military successes with palm branches.

The motto of Lord Nelson is "Palmam qui meruit ferat", which means in Latin, "Let him bear the palm whohas deserved it" and has been adopted by numerous

other organizations including the University of Southern California. Jews followed a similar tradition of carrying palm branches during festive times]
